MASK 4 MASK is a new company owned by 25 year old LGBT activist and entrepreneur, Jamie Love. It was launched to support LGBT charities through the pandemic as many of their donations have taken a hit. The idea is simple; create an essential product to protect people and help Switchboard.
MASK 4 MASK has been created by LGBTQ activist and marketing CEO, Jamie Love. The mask itself is emblazoned with ‘MASK 4 MASK’ in neon pink writing as a coy play on words for the popular phrase “Masc4Masc” seen on gay dating apps. “Masc4Masc” is a phrase with which many gay men on dating apps are familiar. Men often describe themselves this way to indicate that they’re masculine-acting, and are seeking other masculine-acting individuals. The phrase is becoming increasingly problematic in the community as many feel it is not just a sexual preference but instead a dismissive and derogatory term that excludes feminine and androgynous queer individuals.
It is a cause that Jamie has felt passionately about himself for a long time and with the current government guidelines due to COVID meaning the vast majority of us need to wear a face mask, he thought it was a great way to spread this message far and wide.
As well as raising awareness of the alienating “Masc4Masc” issue, for every mask sold, Jamie will be donating £1 to his chosen charity Switchboard, a helpline that offers support and guidance to the LGBTQ Community.
